Fifteen new deaths were reported in association with Covid 19 infection.
From Monday to Tuesday, 5,675 new infections were registered in Austria. The number is below the 7-day average of 5,908 infections. The 7-day incidence drops to 464.60.
This brings the number of active Corona cases down to 78,904. Eighty-nine thousand five hundred ninety-two new PCR tests were made in the past 24 hours. This results in a positive rate of 6.33 percent.
There are also 15 new deaths. This means that 19,215 people with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died across Austria.
Hospitals currently care for 1,383 patients, with 77 people in intensive care units.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations continue to progress slowly. As of Monday, 4,505 shots have been administered, of which 3,760 were booster shots (4th, 5th, and each subsequent dose). Only 66 more people got vaccinated for the first time yesterday. Five million three hundred seventy-four thousand four hundred twenty-six people, or 59.5 percent of Austrians, have been vaccinated as the National Immunization Panel (NIG) recommended. A total of 364,727 people have received a booster vaccination so far.
The protection rate is highest in Burgenland with 67.4 percent. In Lower Austria, 62.9 percent of the population has primary immunization, and in Styria, 61 percent. After Tyrol (57.9), Vienna (57.7), Carinthia (56.7), Vorarlberg (56.5), and Salzburg (55.6), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 55.1 percent.
